R&D ENGINEER, DEVELOPER COLD PLASMA SYSTEM (full-time)

Plasmacure is a fast-growing MedTech start-up focused on the treatment of chronic wounds. Our vision is: “A world where people no longer suffer from their chronic wounds.” We focus on the treatment of complex wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers, which not only have a huge impact on patients and their surroundings but also place significant pressure on the healthcare system. Our patented technology, PLASOMA, uses ‘cold plasma’ to accelerate the wound healing process. This technology has been fully tested and is approved for commercial use. Plasmacure has been granted the status of “Promising Healthcare” and is ready to further roll out PLASOMA both in the Netherlands and internationally, through partnerships with healthcare institutions and insurers.

About the job

As an R&D engineer, you are responsible for gathering and implementing the requirements and wishes of Plasmacure and its users into the product. All aspects of system development are involved. In a start-up, many roles are filled by few people, which makes the work very diverse and allows you to become an expert on the entire system. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of our journey. Location: Eindhoven. Work: hybrid.

Key responsibilities

Together with the team, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing knowledge about cold plasma and gaining an understanding of market dynamics, including competitors
  • Translating the needs, ideas, and requirements of Plasmacure and its users into product specifications
  • Researching and developing innovative technical solutions
  • Testing the system under development in various stages with users
  • Verification activities, from EMC to labelling
  • Leading sub-projects, such as conducting usability studies, developing packaging, or writing a user manual
  • Collaborating with partners, including designers and manufacturers of system components

Requirements

  • Technical education at bachelor’s or master’s level (HBO/WO)
  • Several years of work experience in medical product development (5–10 years)
  • Knowledge in the field of risk assessments and experience with risk management
  • Experience with project-based work and a structured development process
  • Experience with standards such as IEC60601, ISO14971, and/or IEC62366-1 is a plus
  • Broad interests, eager to learn, flexible, and creative, with the ability to contribute in every development phase
  • Proactive and flexible attitude with a hands-on mentality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English; open and clear communicator

Location: Eindhoven. 

Key Responsibilities

Together with the clinical team, you will be responsible for:

  • Clinical data:
    • Developing plans and other documentation for clinical studies and pilots
    • Analyzing and reporting clinical data
    • Supporting partners to obtain clinical evidence for market access, reimbursement and commercial success
  • Post-market surveillance:
    • Executing post-market clinical follow-up plans
    • Writing clinical evaluation plans and reports
    • Writing periodic safety update reports
  • Performing literature research and keeping team up to date on relevant literature
  • Contributing to product and marketing documentation for different audiences (e.g. healthcare professionals and patients)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a (bio)medical discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
  • Strong ability to critically assess clinical literature and data
  • Basic knowledge of biostatistics
  • Conscientious and structured way of working
  • Proactive and flexible attitude with a hands-on mentality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English; open and clear communicator
  • Plusses:
    • Experience with medical devices
    • Experience with medical scientific writing
    • Knowledge of GCP, relevant EU guidelines and regulations
    • Proficiency with advanced Excel functions for data analysis and reporting
